Canada’s Largest Province-Wide Palliative Care Training Initiative
On August 29, 2022, the Minister of Health for Alberta announced $11.3M in project grants to advance palliative and end-of-life care across the province. With this investment, Pallium Canada and Alberta Health Services (AHS) are partnering to implement Canada’s largest province-wide palliative care training initiative. This exciting initiative will provide thousands of health care workers across Alberta with high-quality palliative care education and training, resulting in better access to earlier palliative care for patients and their families.
In this new partnership, AHS will leverage Pallium Canada’s award-winning Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP™) training to standardize palliative care education across the province. Over the next two years, the new initiative will equip 28,000 Alberta health care providers with the skills and tools to provide better palliative care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses, and their families. The partnership will more than double the number of certified LEAP™ facilitators to support future learning needs of front-line health care providers.

Pallium Canada’s LEAP™ training courseware provides practical, inter-professional and evidence-based training in the palliative care approach. LEAP™ equips health care professionals with the expertise and skills to provide palliative care to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses in a more timely and effective way.
