LEAP™ Paediatric is ideal for any health care professional (e.g., physician, nurse, pharmacist, social worker, etc.) who provide paediatrics care. It may also be of interest to palliative care professionals seeking more information on working with the paediatric population.

        • 8 hours of online webinars led by LEAP™ facilitators where learners will work through an additional 8 modules and discuss learnings from online modules.

Accreditation

This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the University of Ottawa’s Office of Continuing Professional Development. You may claim a maximum of 15 hours (credits are automatically calculated).

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of LEAP™ Paediatric, learners should be able to:

    • Define the roles of primary care clinicians, palliative care teams (paediatric and adult), hospices, and community-based services, in providing palliative care throughout the trajectory of a child’s illness.

    • Describe the unique considerations of paediatric advanced care planning.
    • Recognize the multi-dimensional nature of pain.
    • Assess pain effectively for children of different ages and developmental stages.
    • Provide anticipatory guidance about what to expect at end-of-life.
    • Identify what constitutes better palliative and end-of-life for children and their families.
    • Understand how children understand serious illness, death, and grief.
    • Assess and manage common gastrointestinal, respiratory, and neurological symptoms.
    • Complete and effective pain assessment for children of different ages and developmental stages.
