Toronto, ON – The Canadian Home Care Association (CHCA) and Pallium Canada are partnering to help strengthen palliative care knowledge and capacity among home care organizations and their staff across Canada.
The partnership will make Pallium’s palliative care education more accessible to eligible CHCA member organizations and their staff, including its Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP) programs and Canadian Serious Illness Conversations (CSIC) course. Eligible staff will also have opportunities to complete LEAP or CSIC facilitator training at no cost, enabling participating organizations to build internal capacity to deliver palliative care education across their teams over time.
Pallium Canada’s Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP) programs provide practical, interprofessional palliative care education for health care professionals who care for people and their families living with serious illness. Through courses such as LEAP Onboard, LEAP Home Care and LEAP Personal Support Worker, Pallium equips the home and community care workforce with the knowledge, skills and confidence to integrate a palliative care approach into everyday care. The partnership will make it easier for CHCA members to access palliative care education and explore training options that fit the needs of their organizations and teams.
The partnership builds on CHCA and Pallium’s shared commitment to expanding palliative care capacity and supporting high-quality care for Canadians at home. By improving access to palliative care education and enabling organizations to develop facilitators within their own teams, it will strengthen the knowledge and skills needed to support people living with serious illness at home and in their communities.
