Building pediatric palliative care capacity across care settings

Developed in partnership with Canada’s Pediatric Palliative Care Alliance, this series is designed to build pediatric palliative care capacity within generalist settings. It aims to help non-palliative care and non-pediatric specialists feel more comfortable supporting children with serious illnesses and their families, connecting them with the knowledge, resources, and networks they need to provide compassionate care close to home.

Telling My Story: Supporting Children and Families Before and After a Child’s Death in Hospital and Community: March 5, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET.

Join this upcoming session to explore how storytelling can support children and families before and after a child’s death, in both hospital and community settings. Led by Lori Ives-Baine, Grief Support Coordinator with SickKids PACT, this session will examine why storytelling is a critical component of pediatric and perinatal palliative care, and how it can help children and families make meaning, express grief, and feel seen during profoundly difficult times. Participants will learn practical, developmentally appropriate approaches to “telling the story” with infants, children, and adolescents, including strategies for children who are non-verbal. Through real-world examples and photographs shared with permission, this webinar will offer concrete ideas that health care providers can use to support meaningful storytelling alongside families they care for.
