Pallium Canada launches new course for Canadian home care providers

Pallium Canada is delighted to unveil the launch of a new course for home care providers. Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP™) Home Care is ideal for any health care professional, personal support workers or care aides working in a home care context.  

As the population in Canada rapidly ages, there is a growing demand for in-home and community-based care. Most Canadians would prefer to receive end-of-life care in the comfort of their own homes or within their communities. However, most home care providers are generalists who aren’t equipped with the knowledge and tools to provide a palliative approach to care. 

LEAP™ Home Care provides learners with the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to provide high-quality, home-based palliative care. This online course focuses on the essential skills needed to provide a palliative care approach, with case studies and group discussions contextualized to a home care setting. LEAP™ Home Care empowers home care providers to make a profound difference in the lives of their patients, caregivers and families during their most vulnerable moments. 

Learners will work through modules covering pain management, essential conversations, advance care planning, psychosocial and spiritual distress and more. Personal support workers who take the course will receive a high-quality and personalized learning stream, tailored to their important role within the home care space.
