Complete a Health Leadership Specialty (HLS) in Palliative Care with LEAP™ Leaders

Individuals with their CHE designation complete LEAP™ Leaders, along with additional requirements, to receive an HLS in palliative care.

Pallium Canada and the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) are thrilled to announce the launch of LEAP™ Leaders—an online palliative care course for health care leaders. In 2021, Pallium and CCHL began a strategic partnership to offer a Health Leadership Specialty in Palliative Care, representing advanced training and leadership in palliative care.

LEAP™ Leaders is designed specifically for health system leaders and administrators to help them improve access to palliative care and integrate palliative care into the health systems and services they lead. This fully online course provides important knowledge and training on the principles and benefits of the palliative care approach, increases understanding of the patient populations that can benefit, and empowers leaders to effectively integrate palliative care into the organizations, health services, and regions that they manage.

LEAP™ Leaders is for health care administrators, leaders at all leadership levels, and policymakers. It may also be useful for postgraduate learners in fields such as health services management and leadership. Individuals with their Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation can complete LEAP™ Leaders along with some additional requirements to receive an HLS in palliative care.

Brenda Lammi, Vice President, Leadership and Professional Development at the CCHL, said: “Health Leadership Specialties are an exciting new development for CCHL as we have the opportunity to partner with incredible organizations such as Pallium Canada, and hopefully influence the life-long learning and impact of health leaders as they apply what they learn directly in their daily work. The Health Leadership Specialties also create a pathway for those with their CHE designation towards eligibility for the newly launched CCHL Fellows Select program.”

Jeffrey Moat, Chief Executive Officer at Pallium Canada, said: “We created LEAP™ Leaders to inspire health care leaders to integrate high quality palliative care in the services they offer. Pallium is delighted to be partnering with CCHL to offer a Health Leadership Specialty in palliative care because we know health care leaders play an essential role in improving the quality and accessibility of palliative care in Canada.”

Health care administrators, leaders at all leadership levels, and policymakers can enable quality improvement and accelerate health system change in palliative care that results in better health outcomes for patients and their families.
